Hi Libby! I’m Anjana! I am Relatively new to Substack too, and I’m glad I found you. I share my journey as an artist and illustrator and I love keeping sketchbooks off all my experiences. I am looking forward to seeing more of your journey! Welcome 🤗

Hi Anjana, welcome too! It’s so lovely to see you here. How long have you been artisting and illustrating for?

Um for as long as I can remember haha - I’ve just made a shift to trying to become a full time illustrator very recently. I was working as a ux designer up until now and did my masters in graphic design before that. I’ve become tired of all the labels I guess, and I really want to spend time doing work where I can explore drawing and creating more. I’m in the midst of building my illustration portfolio right now!

Hi! I'm brand new to Substack but not that new to working as an artist, with various levels of success hahah :) I'm also trying to start pulling together some resources for other artists, right now I'm working on some tutorials, some draw-alongs, and a list of illustration agencies as I plan to try to apply to a bunch of them... I'll probably be sharing that harrowing journey (I know it will be harrowing because I've done it before and man it makes you feel so small hahah)

Lidija, it’s so lovely to meet you! Welcome to Substack 😌 those resources sound amazing! Draw-alongs are literally my favourite thing to do right now. I just get such a buzz from the experience. Do you plan to have a theme for the draw-alongs?

Yea, I know what you mean, sometimes it feels like you’re wading through mud. I’m hoping we can all support each other. Some cheerleading support from the sidelines can make all the difference ☺️

yes feeling like you're surrounded by people who 'get it' is so important!!! So the draw-alongs I wanted to do for ages but the logistics seemed complex but now Substack makes it really easy so I'm gonna try!! I wanted to theme them around weird animals (and maybe weird plants too). Each week I pick a weird animal and we all google up a bunch of different references (because I don't want to be sharing random photos without knowing who they belong to, but when I have my own photos for some sessions I will share those!) and then I will kind of show how I go about figuring out the pose and silhouette while not copying any of the reference photos, and then we draw the animal! And we can all share pics after? I don't know I'm just working it out hahah. Tomorrow will be the first one hopefully, it's a Pygmy Leaf Chameleon! They're the derpiest of little derps.

Weird animals and weird plants sounds amazing! Yea I think Beth at Introvert Drawing club gets photos in from some participants sometimes too. Beth compiles a list of weekly draw-alongs so you should let her know when it’s set up and she can share in her weekly shout-out

oh that is so cool! Thanks for letting me know, I will do for sure. The connecting definitely feels way easier here, for now anyways. Like it's still a cool little pond and not a teeming salmon aquaponics farm, if you know what I mean

Hi Libby, I’m Tabi (our names even kind of rhyme!) and I’m also new to Notes; I started a Substack last year, but life and work took over. I re-launched it a couple weeks ago, focusing on telling illustrated travel stories.

Like you, I have a day job I enjoy, but felt like something was missing - creativity. Now I’ve launched Sketched Journeys, and my head is chock full of full of ideas!!

Welcome, and I look forward to seeing your work 😊

Hi Tabi! I’m so glad to meet you. We do - the best names end in 🐝 😄

Congratulations on the re-launch. I’m definitely going to check it out. I love looking at people’s travel journals. I find it really inspiring, both from an artistic perspective and discovering unique things about places. Do you have any key tips for managing your art materials when you’re out and about?

My biggest challenge is I simply have too many sketchbooks and pens, and I always want to bring allll my markers 🤭

On my most recent trip, however, I forced myself to only pack 5 markers (already too many), 2 pens, a pencil, and a small eraser. I brought one notebook for sketching and a smaller one for jotting down details on the go. Everything fit into a small zipper bag.

You just gave me an idea for something to post later! ❤️
